Ductless systems suit the older houses of Mill Valley and the Tiburon peninsula, where there is often no room for ducts, and Fujitsu General, founded in Japan in 1936, concentrates on exactly that kind of inverter equipment. In Tiburon, Belvedere and Mill Valley we repair, clean and install Fujitsu Halcyon systems and service Airstage VRF installations. We are an independent service company and not affiliated with Fujitsu.
Halcyon, XLTH, Airstage and commercial
- Halcyon is the residential family: wall-mounted heads, floor consoles, ceiling cassettes and slim ducted units on single-zone or multi-zone outdoor units.
- XLTH is the Halcyon heat pump range built for heating in severe cold. Our winters never test that, but the same equipment heats steadily through a long, damp season.
- Airstage VRF connects many indoor units to one outdoor system, for large homes and commercial buildings. Faults there usually involve unit addressing, communication wiring or branch components, and we trace them step by step.
- Commercial units cover offices and shops; the service approach is the same.
Why ductless heads need more than a filter rinse
Homes under redwoods and on shaded Mill Valley lots stay cool and damp, and so does the air inside a wall-mounted head. Dust and moisture collect on the coil and on the drum-shaped blower wheel, and mold can follow. The signs are a musty smell when the unit starts, black specks on the louvers, or water spitting from the vents. Fujitsu’s ion deodorizing filter helps with odors on models that have it, but it does not clean the coil or the blower.
A deep cleaning means covering the wall below the head, cleaning and rinsing the coil, cleaning the blower wheel, clearing the drain pan and line, and checking that the head drains freely. Rinsing the washable filters every few weeks in heavy-use seasons is the part you can do yourself. Our indoor air quality page covers damp homes in more detail.
Reading the blinking lights
When a Fujitsu head shuts down with a fault, its indicator lamps blink in a pattern that stands for an error code. Before you call, note which lamps blink and how many times, and whether the outdoor unit is running. That narrows the visit and improves the odds that the right part is on hand the first time.
Typical Fujitsu repairs
| Symptom | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Water running down the wall | Clogged drain, head out of level, failed condensate pump |
| One room on a multi-zone system stops | Sensor, wiring or that zone’s refrigerant circuit |
| No heat on a cold morning, outdoor unit frosted | Defrost operation, outdoor sensor or low charge |
| Unit ignores the remote | Remote batteries, receiver board or Wi-Fi adapter |
| Ice on the indoor coil | Dirty filter or coil, or low refrigerant |
Installing Fujitsu in older homes
In Mill Valley houses from the early 1900s to the 1960s, the work is in the routing: where the line set and drain can run, where a condensate pump is needed, and how to keep the outdoor unit quiet and out of sight. We plan that with you during mini-split installation. Repairs are handled under mini-split repair, with a 90-day warranty on our work; for Mill Valley specifically, see mini-split repair in Mill Valley.
