What to have ready
- The equipment: furnace, boiler, heat pump, mini-split or air conditioner, and where it is (attic, crawlspace, garage, closet or side yard).
- Brand, model and serial number from the label, if you can reach it safely. A photo of the label is enough.
- The symptom and when it started: the noise, the smell, the room that stays cold, any error code or blinking light.
- What you have already checked: the thermostat setting and batteries, the filter, the breakers.
- Access notes: gate codes, parking, a steep driveway, pets, or HOA rules about work hours.
