Daikin was founded in Japan in 1924 and today also owns Goodman and the Amana heating and cooling brand. In Tiburon, Belvedere and Mill Valley, the Daikin equipment we work on is mostly inverter-driven: DX split systems, FIT side-discharge units and Quaternity ductless heads. We are an independent service company, not affiliated with Daikin, and we quote every repair before starting it.
What inverter technology means for you
A conventional compressor is either off or running flat out. An inverter compressor is driven by an electronic drive that changes its speed, so the system eases off as the house approaches the setting and then holds it with long, quiet, low-speed runs. You notice fewer starts, steadier temperatures and an outdoor unit that seems to run all the time without being loud.
For diagnosis, the change is bigger. There is no compressor start capacitor to swap, and many faults trace to temperature sensors, the inverter board, the power supply or communication between the indoor and outdoor units. The system reports most of these as error codes, so the first step is reading the code at the thermostat or the unit, then confirming it with measurements.
DX, FIT and Quaternity
- DX Series. Daikin’s split-system air conditioners, from single-stage models to inverter units, usually paired with a Daikin furnace or air handler.
- FIT. An inverter system with a compact, side-discharge outdoor cabinet. It is shorter than a typical top-discharge unit and blows air sideways, which suits narrow side yards, spots under windows and lots where a neighbour’s view or an HOA limits what can stand outside.
- Quaternity. Daikin’s premium wall-mounted ductless unit, used for single rooms or as part of a ductless setup.
Daikin One+ is the brand’s smart thermostat. On compatible equipment it shows alerts and service information, which helps both you and the technician.
Placement on peninsula lots
Outdoor units in Tiburon and Belvedere often have to fit between a house and a retaining wall, close to a property line, or on a terrace with a view behind it. For a FIT unit we keep the discharge side clear of walls and plantings so the air it blows out is not drawn straight back in, keep it away from bedroom windows, and avoid spots where wind off the water drives spray into the coil. In Mill Valley the questions are different: shade, damp, leaf litter and access on steep lots.
Calls we take most
- A Quaternity or other ductless head dripping water: a clogged drain line or a unit that has gone out of level.
- An error code with the system off: sensor, board or communication faults, which need testing rather than guesses.
- Weak heating on cold, foggy mornings: defrost operation, a dirty coil or low refrigerant charge.
- A Daikin One+ thermostat showing an alert: we read it first, then test the equipment it points to.

Choosing Daikin for a replacement
If your house has ducts, a DX air conditioner or a FIT system with a matched indoor unit can replace the old outdoor equipment. With no ducts, ductless heads, or a mix of ducted and ductless, usually work better. We size the system from the house, not from the old unit’s label, and walk through the options when planning AC installation.
