If you have Heil equipment in Tiburon, Belvedere or Mill Valley and need it repaired, maintained or replaced, you do not need a Heil dealer. Who makes Heil, and who sells it
Heil equipment is built by International Comfort Products, a company based in Tennessee and owned by Carrier, the same group behind Carrier, Bryant and Payne. Heil is sold through independent HVAC contractors rather than in stores, and replacement parts are sold through HVAC distributors, which is where we get them.

Ion, QuietComfort and Performance
- Ion Series is the top line: variable-speed and modulating equipment managed by the Ion System Control, a communicating thermostat that stores alerts and runs the system’s staging.
- QuietComfort Series is the middle of the range, built with sound in mind and offered in single- and two-stage versions.
- Performance Series is the entry line: single-stage equipment on conventional thermostats, simple to diagnose.
Older top-line Heil systems may still use the Observer communicating wall control, an earlier generation of communicating control. Either kind should be replaced like for like; a generic thermostat on a communicating system can lose staging or stop the system altogether.
Replacing a Heil heat pump in Tiburon
When an older Heil heat pump on the peninsula reaches the end of its life, a few things decide the job:
- The indoor half. Current outdoor units use newer refrigerants and need a matching indoor coil or air handler, so a heat pump replacement usually means both halves.
- Line set and placement. The copper lines may be reusable if they are the right size and in good condition; we check rather than assume. On hillside lots the outdoor unit also has to suit neighbours and HOA rules on noise.
- Salt exposure. A waterfront unit needs a spot that is easy to rinse and service, raised off wet ground.
- Sizing. We size from the house, not from the old unit’s label, because many homes have been remodeled since the old system went in.

What usually fails on Heil equipment
Furnaces: inducer motors that whine for weeks before they quit, pressure switches, cracked igniters and dirty flame sensors. Air conditioners and heat pumps: run capacitors, contactors, outdoor fan motors, defrost boards and coils corroded by salt air. In Mill Valley, where the furnace runs most of the year, worn inducer bearings and clogged condensate traps on high-efficiency models come up often.
