York dates back to 1874 and today is part of Johnson Controls, which also builds Coleman equipment. In Tiburon, Belvedere and Mill Valley we repair, maintain and replace York air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces, from current Affinity systems to older Latitude units. We are an independent service company, not affiliated with York or Johnson Controls, and you get the price before any work starts.
Affinity, LX and Latitude
- Affinity Series is York’s top line, with variable-speed equipment and Hx3 communicating controls.
- LX Series is the core of the range: air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces built around conventional controls, with parts that are straightforward to match.
- Latitude Series is an earlier York line, including split and packaged units, still running on older installations. We match its parts by model number, and some have to be ordered.
MicroChannel coils and salt air
Many York outdoor units use MicroChannel coils: flat aluminum tubes with tiny internal passages, brazed to aluminum fins. They hold less refrigerant and move heat well, but they behave differently in service:
- Cleaning. The fins are fine and fragile. We rinse with low pressure and a coil cleaner suited to aluminum; a pressure washer damages them.
- Leaks. A leak in a MicroChannel coil is very hard to repair in place, so a leaking coil is usually replaced rather than patched. We confirm the leak’s location first, because a leak at a service valve or fitting is a much smaller job.
- Charge. Because these coils hold little refrigerant, a small leak shows up quickly as lost cooling, and recharging has to be precise.
Near the water, salt deposits on the coil speed up corrosion. A yearly cleaning during AC maintenance slows that down.
QuietDrive for close neighbours
QuietDrive is York’s name for the sound-reducing design of its quieter outdoor units. On hillside and waterfront lots where the condenser sits near a neighbour’s terrace, that matters, and so does upkeep: a worn fan motor, a loose panel or a unit that has settled off its pad can make even a quiet design noisy. We check those during repairs and plan placement carefully on AC installation jobs.
Hx3 controls and zoning
Hx3 is York’s communicating control platform for Affinity systems, including zoning for houses with several levels or wings. Multi-level homes on the Tiburon hillsides are a good fit, because upper floors and view rooms warm up while lower floors stay cool. When a zone misbehaves, we check the damper motors, zone sensors and communication wiring before touching the outdoor unit.
Common York calls
| What you notice | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Cooling slowly fades over a season or two | Slow refrigerant leak, often at the coil |
| Outdoor unit hums, fan still | Capacitor or fan motor |
| Furnace starts, then locks out | Flame sensor, igniter or pressure switch |
| One floor too warm on a zoned system | Damper, zone sensor or settings |
| Heat pump frozen white on a cold morning | Defrost control or sensor |
In Mill Valley, York furnaces and heat pumps do most of their work in the long heating season, so a yearly HVAC maintenance visit before winter pays off there. Repairs carry our 90-day warranty, and parts follow the manufacturer’s warranty. See AC repair for how a visit works.
